I was a heavy Vim user, but once I started doing stats and writing papers, I decided to switch to emacs for ESS and AucTeX. I don't think I'll ever go back. Its ability to do everything is exactly what makes it so awesome. I use org-mode for my to-do list (with heavy customization), ESS to run stats, AucTeX to compile… » 4/17/14 7:28am Thursday 7:28am

I used it for a bit, and it was great. The live preview of your Markdown is really neat, and I'm a big fan of its simplicity. What made me quit was the cost. I host my site at nearlyfreespeech.net, and if I use Jekyll (a static site blog generator) I can host my entire website for less than 10 cents a month. To host a… » 2/07/14 12:16pm 2/07/14 12:16pm

Yep, I wouldn't be going with Sprint if I had a choice. They must have the worst coverage in the country. I can't get a signal at my house (thankfully I have an Airrave) or my office most of the time. If I'm traveling on the East Coast, I'm either roaming or signalless. Not much better on the west. » 10/31/13 8:44pm 10/31/13 8:44pm

Are viruses still a problem if you aren't an idiot online? I've been running MSE since it came out and I'm fairly certain I have never seen a single warning or notification that it has protected me from a virus. I'm not saying I'm invincible. Just that I don't download from shady websites. » 10/04/13 10:50am 10/04/13 10:50am

As an avid Pocket user, one problem that has always bugged me is their support for pages with code examples. I read a lot of websites with code examples inline (e.g. http://www.r-bloggers.com/got-bootstrap/). In Pocket the code is completely MIA. Do any of the other apps like this perform better? » 8/27/13 3:08pm 8/27/13 3:08pm

I think rapid release with updates are a great way to get money, users, and feedback to help with further development. I think much software (especially apps) are essentially open betas that we are allowed to participate in. I don't think it's a bad thing, just a change in the way software is developed. » 8/26/13 1:06pm 8/26/13 1:06pm

I had the same issue came up. After being a Geico customer for years, I found a much cheaper rate for better coverage on Progressive. Called to cancel, and what do you know? Geico was able to lower my rate substantially, improve my coverage, AND beat Progressive's price by $200/year. » 8/22/13 3:36pm 8/22/13 3:36pm

I knew about the global hotkeys, but to open a new note, edit it, and then click to close is sometimes more of a distraction than I'd like. When I have a quick thought I want to throw into Evernote without breaking my flow, the Launchy script is just right. » 4/15/13 6:11pm 4/15/13 6:11pm
